Frederic Sackrider Remington 1861 - 1909 was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor and writer who specialized in depictions of the American Old West. A member of the second generation of Hudson River School artists, Remington's works are known for depicting the Western United States in the last quarter of the 19th-century, featuring such images as cowboys, American Indians, and the United States Cavalry. In 1886, Remington was sent to Arizona by Harper's Weekly on a commission as an artist-correspondent to cover the government's war against Geronimo. Although he never caught up with Geronimo, Remington did acquire many authentic artifacts to be used later as props, and made many photos and sketches valuable for later paintings.

Remington's fame made him a favorite of the Western Army officers fighting the last Native American battles. He was invited out West to make their portraits in the field and to gain them national publicity through Remington's articles and illustrations for Harper's Weekly, particularly General Nelson Miles, an Indian fighter who aspired to the presidency of the United States. In turn, Remington got exclusive access to the soldiers and their stories and boosted his reputation with the reading public as "The Soldier Artist". This beautiful Vintage style Art Print is reproduced in the USA by Texas Art Warehouse in a variety of sizes and materials.

(Select from the dropdown box). All products are custom made to order by our printing and framing partner in the USA. Remington produced a large body of work and in some cases painted several versions of the same image. Often his work was reproduced in publications in the 1800's like Harper's weekly. The Black & White images in our collections are mostly scanned from those publications but most of the color images we have are vintage book scans.

In some cases there are color versions and black & white versions of the same image that were published at varying times. We have tried to ensure the best quality from the scans we have available and where there are major color differences with scans we may list both versions.

We also try to limit the sizes available to accommodate the quality of the scans we have. If you are not satisfied with the product please let us know before leaving a review and we will do our best to resolve the issue. If you are looking to frame yourself choose Unframed Art Paper or Rolled Canvas which are perfect for using existing frames or upcycling thrift store finds.

If you prefer a ready to hang canvas piece right out of the box we have Stretched Gallery Wrap Canvas or Black Float Framed Canvas. You can also choose a ready to hang black wood framed paper print under plexiglass.
